Cambridge Audio Alva Solo is a dedicated moving-magnet phono preamplifier. It raises the low-level output of a compatible turntable cartridge to line level, allowing vinyl playback through an amplifier that does not have a suitable phono input.
Its circuitry applies the RIAA equalisation required for record playback, with surface-mount components and a compact enclosure. A subsonic filter helps reduce very low-frequency content associated with record warps, while the balance adjustment can compensate for channel-level differences.
RCA connections and a turntable ground connection keep integration straightforward. Automatic power-down reduces consumption when the unit is not in use. Alva Solo is intended for moving-magnet cartridges; moving-coil compatibility is provided by Alva Duo instead.
